He was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on July 20, 1963. His artistic training began in high school, between the ages of thirteen and eighteen, where he studied advertising design and illustration.
After finishing school, he started working at an advertising agency, marking the beginning of his career as a professional illustrator where he reached an international audience with his "worlds of fantasy," finding publishers in Spain, England, the United States, and Germany.
Ciruelo’s notable clients include George Lucas, for whom he illustrated the Chronicles of the Shadow War trilogy.
He also created album covers for Steve Vai and The Flower Kings, and worked with Wizards of the Coast, TSR, Berkley, Tor, Warner, Ballantine, Heavy Metal magazine, and Playboy.
In collaboration with Alejandro Jodorowsky, he published a comic story in France and the USA in 2006.
